=520  3\$aOn the Manuscript Sources of Virgilio Malvezzi�s Sucesos principales This article analyses Virgilio Malvezzi�s role in the creation of a historiography of Philip IV of Spain�s reign and, in particular, of his Sucesos principales (1640), a book which describes the political and military vicissitudes of the Spanish armies in 1639, during the Thirty Years� War. Making use of official Court documents, it offers an apologia that, apart from containing passages copied straight from government manuscripts, is the work of three different writers: in addition to Malvezzi himself, his steward Juan Sancho and the scholar Lorenzo Ramírez de Prado. Research into the book�s sources has involved the study of passages contained in manuscript folder 2.370 in the Spanish National Library.
