=520  3\$aThis paper provides a careful study of some of the comical passages from «La gallarda toledana» by Lope de Vega, going on the assumption that the scenes with a highest amount of jokes and taunts are often those which modern recipients find the most difficult. This is due to the existence of many linguistic and cultural references which were well known by the spectators of that period but which are considered strange nowadays. The objective of this paper is to explain the meaning of such references so the humor of Lope's verses can be understood by modern readers.
