In this paper, we will analyse their influence on Baltasar Gracián,  who in his masterpiece, El Criticón, explores the mysterious essence of the fantastic  beings as a joint between two interpretations (scientific and religious) and two  ways of representation (literary and visual). In order to study the original contribution  that Baltasar Gracián offers in El Criticón, we will firstly go through a brief  context, which also includes reflections on the «construction» mechanisms of the  fantastic beings, to then proceed with several exemplary cases of the creatures that  populate his masterpiece
