=520  3\$aThe functions of the exordium in the classical tradition of the epic poem undergo a transformation in the Italian cultured epic up to Tasso's Gerusalemme. They are rhetorical features that exert a powerful influence on the Spanish cultured epic that is analyzed in the present paper, which addresses 65 works in-between 1552 and 1605. The analysis categorizes the different configurations that range from the appeals to the reader to the symbolizations of writing, covering all the space delimited by history and fiction.
