As Hunt (2006: 128) points out... «foundation rituals  were not isolated cult practices but belonged to a cultic koine that existed throughout the  ancient Mediterranean». It seems that 'foundation' ceremonies are connected with the "initiation" and "consecration" of a building's life, usually through "religious" as well as "magical"  practices including the ritual burial and integration of sacrificial offerings into the "corps" of  the building for its everlasting protection and prosperity
