Los tres maridos burlados is a short novel, narrated by don Melchor and included in the fifth "cigarral," together with the representation of El celoso prudente, without losing «the autonomy of its own narrative construction». As Nougué has pointed out, this farcical short novel is based on popular and folkloric sources that were propagated by minstrels and travelers throughout Europe, and especially in Italy. Taking into account Mijaíl Bajtín's work, Gargantua Rabelais and His World, I intend to emphasize some important elements, typical of the aesthetics of the grotesque.
