=520  3\$aThis paper analyses the way in which the "geranos" -crane or maze dance in Antiquity- is represented as a literary motif in Modern Greek literature, more specifically in Nikos Kazantzakis' Odyssey (1938). The study suggests, first, that a specific passage of the poem is based upon the documented links between dance and death in Ancient Crete; and, secondly, that in this passage the author employs a series of mechanisms which are close to the "mythical method'', a key feature of European Modernism
