The granary, an unmistakable barn that merges into the Galician landscape, could not fail to appear in a novel like Los Pazos de Ulloa, set in XIX century rural Galicia. The purpose of this paper is to combine architecture and literature, adding into this blend some historical component that should complement the result of the research. The final outcome is the certainty that the role of the barn, to store and preserve the crop of corn away from insects and rodents, applies in the same way to the protection that the granary provides to the two children who are given shelter and isolation from the corrupt world of the adults.
