Sister María de Jesús de Ágreda (1602-1665), was one of the most popular female characters of her time, with a multifaceted personality. The unpublished painting that we present is revealed as a synthesis of her mystical experiences, in which tangible reality and the supernatural are mixed. To interpret it, we have developed an iconological methodology that enriches the iconographic corpus of this character, helping to understand his biography and work, in the context of the mentality of an era and its subsequent interpretation.
