In this article we offer four Algerian versions of the tale The Shepherd Youth in the Robbers' Power which will force us to reconsider current theories about the origin and distribution of this tale. These versions, gathered from a tiny mountainous region in northern Algeria, display a diversity of motifs and characters even greater than the set of versions of the entire European continent.
