The following article analyses several aspects of the novel Muchos años después by José Antonio Gabriel y Galán. After some critical references that place the text within its context, the analysis focuses on a number of reasons which help the novel to develop such as the childhood memories of both protagonists, the discovery of the word «primordial» -which symbolises the close relationship between both friends- and the fall into two different types of alienation: the gambling addition (in the case of Julián Zúñiga) and the writing of an almost endless neo-Marxist essay (in the case of Silverio) that he will end up destroying. Furthermore, some Jungian symbols are briefly analysed in relation to the discovery of a corpse of a girl during the child episode of Julián and Silverio, linked to Odile, the female protagonist and their lover.
