The arrival of the controversial Viceroy Marquis de Villamanrique, brought with it, a direct confrontation with the New-Hispanic Church. Villamanrique, far from negotiating, sought to impose his decisions arbitrarily, causing him to be submitted to a rigorous visit which was entrusted to don Diego Romano, whose effectiveness is observed in the subsequent condemnation of the Marquis.
