    Annotation:

This work analyzes the episode of Ruperta in Persiles (III, 16-17) highlighting the central place that the power of sight has in the story and the different uses that image occupies in it. Behind this story, from beginning to end, there is a conceptual chain that emphasizes the power of what is visual : from the relics that are preserved so as to never forget and always keep in mind a pain that calls for revenge, to the road to redemption that is also discovered by the impact of an image, and through numerous visual landmarks that give shape to a meaningful semantic field. As a result of this analysis we discover a vitalist response to the obscure and immobilizing Baroque nihilism, so linked, in general, to the tremendista aesthetics that Cervantes seems to be parodying in these pages.
