    Annotation:

Amadis de Gaula is a dynastic geste, a sweeping historical epic, whose geography is both real and imaginery. It is also an apology of Christianity, as well as a love story. Was it influenced by Byzantine novels Comnenian novels and Paleologan romances of chivalry? In fact, its content remains very different from them except for one fundamental aspect: the utopian project of an union between Christians and Pagans, which makes it resemble another romance of chivalry, Florios and Platziaflora. But in that case the influence probably comes from the western model of Florios, Floire et Blancheflor.
