    Annotation:

    The «Chalcedonian movement» was a movement of ecclesiastical opposition led by Leo, bishop of Chalcedon, during the reign of Alexios I Komnenos. Even if the demands of the bishops were mainly ecclesiological, they established a circumstantial alliance with the dissatisfied aristocracy of Alexios' reign. We shall examine in this article the characteristics of that alliance, as well as its political role in the consolidation of the Comnenian dynasty
