The development of the philosophy in Eastern Europe has not been fully explored yet. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, there have been published in Russia numerous important works of a so-called Silver Age generation of neo-byzantine thinkers, being that one of the most brilliant periods of Russian culture (1890-1917). This article deals with the Russian religious philosophy: its status in the European historiography and its basic periodization, focusing on its main characteristics and central issues. Aiming to contribute to setting the Russian thought in the right place in the history of European philosophy, this text spreads a new light on its major specificity: a deep relationship with Hellenic and Byzantine tradition within Orthodox culture.
