    The importance of the jurist increased in the Spanish Golden Age as can be observed in the contemporary treatise about this profession. Especially the corregidor in state service will be examined. According to Jerónimo Castillo, his tasks consisted of governing a region and exercising jurisprudence at the same time. Although as a governor he was responsible for peace and order, as a judge he had to serve justice. As stated by Bermúdez de Pedraza, jurisprudence can be classified as a science because it meets all the required criteria. The corregidors became dominant in the national image just like a body in which they are assigned to the head
