This paper studies the intertextual links established by Javier Sologuren (Lima, 1921-2004) in his poetry book La gruta de la sirena (1961, 1971) with two Spanish Renaissance authors: the poet Garcilaso de la Vega and the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, each of which is referred to in the poems that open the first and the second section of the set, respectively. From the analysis of the poems and the structure of the collection, it is analyzed how the Peruvian poet reconfigures his lyrical speaker, relying on the elements of the work and figure of both authors. Also, it investigates the reason for the affinity towards the two Garcilasos, from which it is explained how Sologuren understands and interprets their works
