An outstanding member of a famous comic dynastic, Francisco de Castro was, in addition to being an actor and author, a quite prolific playwright whose production exceeds fifty short pieces. He himself published most of them in three volumes under the common title of Alegría cómica. Highlight among his works, El órgano y el mágico. Being Castro's declared intention to be «his end only that you have fun», this entremés jokingly reflects the serious situation of the Country at the new century and dynasty, which forced many members of the popular classes to change jobs in order to survive. The long professional activity of the author in Madrid companies and his assiduous participation in court parties with music, allow him to reuse various palatial songs (and combine them with other popularizing ones), which demonstrate the dissemination of these songs among a not especially cultured public, and even popular. As a consequence, these works will not only survive beyond the framework for which they were created; they will also serve as a bridge to new brief theatrical forms of the enlightened century.
