    Annotation:

In this article, while commenting on Dascal's book Leibniz, Language, Signs, and Thoughts, the author not only deals with its philological adequacy, but also comes to consider, through Leibniz's and Dascal's ideas, the present importance of classical topics within linguistic theory and philosophy of language. At the same time, reference is made to the relationships between the history of linguistics and linguistic theory -both scientific and philosophical- pointing out that the history of linguistics may be more relevant for the epistemology of linguistics, conceived as the uninterrupted reflection about the conditions that make possible linguisticknowledge, than for scientific linguistic theory proper.
