In this article we want to prove that Frankenstein by Mary Shelley belongs to a group of stories (Adam and Eve, Prometheus, Faust, Dr. Jekyll, etc.) that are characterized by a mythical structure in which: 1) a character infringes a natural or divine law related to the human essence and its limits, often expressed as a search for knowledge, and 2) there is usually a tragic ending due to the main characters boldness. All these texts also respond to a scheme of collapse that comes as a sign of punishment and represents the human anguish in transient nature of time.
