From the beginning women were excluded from epistolary treatises. Occasionally they were taken into account, but only as potential recipients of affective letters. The printing of Primero Libro de cartas mensajeras writen by Gaspar de Texeda (1547-1553) started a new way. Texeda introduced in his epistolary treatise new precepts addressed to teach women to write letters, and in his formulary he included many examples of letters of women on a rich variety of types. Texedas repertory is exceptional in contemporary and even later epistolary preceptive, given the restrictions women still found in the practice of ars dictaminis.
