The life and works of Pedro de Navarra, also known as Pedro de Albret or Pedro de Labrit, must be revisited just now, in the ictus that the spanish philology has decided to pay attention to the writers rated as minores. The poverty of the bibliographical corpus; his arquetipical image with the traces of an humanist, courtisan and ecclesiastic, interested in worthy materials (from the spanishs studies perspective), about he treats in his dialogues; or as an intrigant coutisan, only looking for his own benefi t, playing the role of a «double spy» for Felipe II and Catalina de Médicis (from the french studies perspective); the novelty and modernity of some of his ideas about the language, from his differences between the spoken and the wrote one; about the conditions that must accomplish the chronist as a servant of his lord, or as an impartial narrator of the historical facts; or his decisive dialogue about the ars moriendi. All of these premises makes absolutely necessary to revisite his arquetipical image, re-reading the fi rst bibliographical aproximations to his life and his works, those that were printed in the XVIth and the XVIIth centuries. It will allow us to design an image of an humanist more precise than the arquetipical, without sense, that the XXth century literary history has defi ned.
