While determining when the puppets first appeared, it is necessary to look into man's prehistory. It was a time when religion and the need to represent deities, the fear of the unknown and superstition, or, simply, the desire to have fun, led to different civilizations to invent representative figurines -the first idols, in the strict sense- that once manipulated and placed in a dramatic situation, acquired a life of their own or a specific personality. The Greek language has, essentially, two terms to refer to the puppets: ta; neurovspasta and ta; qauvmata.
