Nowadays the right to education is taken for granted. However, the fight to make it as accepted has been hard but essential, especially in the case of women. For a long time women have been imprisoned in their own homes and within their innerselves, as it was considered natural, logical and legal. But human knowledge belongs to everybody, even if it used to be considered a masculine privilege. As a period of crisis and ideological change, the Renaissance replaced the feudal system of lineage with the bourgeois concept of soul and assertiveness. It was then when many women started to write in order to legitimate themselves as intellectuals. Pisan's defence of female writing and Labé's call to female intellectual rebellion can be considered as a kind of protofeminism.
