The aim of this paper is to address the issue of phraseological quasi-equivalence. Taking as a starting point the assumptions of Cognitive Linguistics, especially the theory of cross-linguistic equivalence developed by Dobrovol'skij (2000, 2005), the paper attempts to analyze the phraseological units (PhUs) which at first glance seem semantically similar, i.e. are perceived as absolute equivalents. However, a detailed study will reveal that the PhUs, the subject matter of this research, in reality present idiosyncratic configurations in their conceptual level. This idiosyncrasy is due to differences in the plane of content, composed of two macroconcepts which are, to some extent, independent of each other: the image component (mental image) and the actual (literal) meaning of a given idiom.
