Jako referenční bod autor využívá debaty nad svou studií "Dvanáct omylů v současné teorii adaptace" ("Twelve Fallacies in Contemporary Adaptation Theory"; Criticism XLV, č. 2, 2003) a vznik periodik "Journal of Adaptation in Film and Performance" a "Adaptation".
