Esej o vztahu herce a postavy, kterou má ztvárnit. Kraus se při psaní inspiroval Roussetovými eseji o dvojím typu herectví, tedy že se herec přibližuje k postavě a tzv. ji dorůstá, či herec hledá v roli sám sebe. Kraus dochází k závěru, že extrémní příklady těchto dvou variant neexistují. Rovněž se inspiruje Diderotem, jenž po herci požadoval jen inteligenci, odstup a techniku. Také se zamýšlí nad inscenací, jak funguje divadelní iluze, poukazuje i na odpovědnost režie a scénografie.
