Suvivirsi is a symbol of summer holidays for generations in Finland. It is an essential item in spring festivals held in schools just before the beginning of the school holidays. Now this tradition is threatened by the planned adjustments to Finnish legislation on religious freedom. In spring 2002 Helsingin Sanomat published readers' opinions on the possible change of the tradition. The article explores the construction of identities in these texts from the postcolonial angle. |
