Michael Bambergin ehdottama kerronnallisen asemoinnin teoria ja siihen liittyvä "pienten kertomusten" tutkimus kuuluvat viime vuosien tärkeimpiinavauksiinsuullisten kertomusten tutkimuksessa. Lähestymistavan tarkoituksena on tarkastellakerronnallista identiteettiä ja itseyttä tavalla, joka mahdollistaaniiden vaihtelun herkän rekisteröinnin jaempiirisesti perustellunanalyysin. Avaus onerityisenkiinnostavasiksi, ettäse yhdisteleemonitieteisen kerronnantutkimuksen,keskustelunanalyysin, diskurssianalyysin ja jäsenkategoria-analyysin tulokulmia jaanalyyttisia resursseja(Korobov 2001). Tässä artikkelissa esittelemmeasemoinnin teoriaa ja arvioimmesen käytettävyyttäyhden Tervaskannot 90+ -hankkeessa tehdyn 91-vuotiaan naisen haastattelun analyysinavulla. Analyysi korostaa sitä, etteikerrotunidentiteetin kannaltaratkaisevaa ole vainkerrottu sisältö, kuten tähän saakka on usein ajateltu. Oleellistaon myös läpi kerronnan tapahtuva asemointi-puhumisen ja toiminnan moraalisten oikeuksien ja velvollisuuksien jako -toimintana.Asemoinnin teorian avulla on mahdollista tehdä näkyväksi analyyttinen ero tilanteessa kerrottujentarinoidenja haastattelun pohjalta mahdollisesti hahmotettavissa olevanelämäkerrallisen kertomuksenvälillä.Suomessakerronnallisen asemoinninmalli on ollut vielä harvakseltaan käytössä (ks. Narrative Positioning and the Analysis of Interviews Michael Bamberg's version of the theory of narrative positioning provides one of the most important recent contributions into the study of oral narratives. The approach aims to study narrative identities and selfhood in a way that recognizes their inherent variation and enables empirically documented analysis of them. Bamberg's contribution is important both theoretically and methodologically because it draws significantly from Conversation Analysis, Discourse Analysis as well as Membership Categorization Analysis from a narrative point of view (Korobov 2001). In this article, we introduce the theory of narrative positioning and evaluate its applicability and contribution through the analysis of an interview of a 91 year-old woman. The analysis makes evident that the usual emphasis on the story content is not alone sufficient to analyze how identities are narrated and narratively constructed. Positioning - the attribution of moral rights and obligations to speak and act - takes place throughout the narrating situation and needs to be taken into account as well. Analyses based on positioning theory disclose the analytical difference between the stories told in the ongoing flow of interaction and the stories that are the end products of the application of interpretative models upon the material.
