This article presents the emotional construction of Poeta en Nueva Yorkas a world full of layers and contradictions. This situation, characteristicof a personal, social, and literary crisis, allows the symbolism to permanently point in different directions in the poetic logic, which legitimizes different interpretations of the same word or the same image. The open and changing meaning of the symbols point to the absence of a stable essence and allow us to understand the true gravity of the book: it is not about a fight between repression and freedom, but rather about becoming aware of the emptiness on which the human condition must be built. Desire is by definition a territory that questions any identity.
