Carlos de Arellano is a poet from the first half of 15th century. He only left us two poems, which are included in LB2 and ME1, and he has not been given much attention in literary studies. However, the cancioneros have numerous poets with small corpora, like Arellano, and it is necessary to study them too if we wish to really understand this literary movement. In this particular case, we also need to review some confusing information about his biography, such as his association which the Arellano of RE16 and 11CG, his image as a martyr of love or his mention in the Coplas de la panadera. In spite of his Navarrese origin, this gentleman was closely related to Alvaro de Luna's court and his poetry was composed under the protection of the Constable. His songs deal with love, and are notable for their formal originality and the wordplay around the part- lexeme.
