                            [a] => More than 400 years after the first edition of Persiles, its fictional geography is still puzzling. This article scans its labyrinthine northern archipelago, but  guided by the first translators of Persiles: the French François de Rosset and Vital d'Audiguier (translations of 1618); the anonymous author of the English version of  1619; the Italian Francesco Ellio (1626); as well as Madame Le Givre Du Richebourg, author of another later but also freer French translation of 1738.  It is proposed to examine how some ambiguities of the text regarding Nordic geography and religious issues have been translated (and then interpreted), if for  example the translators were tempted to identify fictional places (such as Hibernia or Golandia) with real territories. By observing how the text traveled from one  language to another, there are indications about the early reception of the novel, especially as regards the question of its verisimilitude and its relations (or not) with  the confessional and political conflicts that upset Europe at that time
