    Two key notions of the linguistic change paradigm, one from Gustave Guillaume (Subduction), and the other functionalist (Grammaticalization), are here gathered due to the interest they have aroused, and arouse today, in Hispanic linguistics. Indeed they show the ability of some words to evolve from the lexical sphere to the grammatical sphere. Starting from a concrete example -the Spanish adverb y which became morpheme in hay, soy, doy, voy, estoy- I will benchmark the two theories before examining also their limits.
