This article explores the theme of the «cat's delivery», narrated by the maid Clara in the first act of La dama boba by Lope de Vega. In the critical tradition about the comedy, this passage is studied as a derivation of the metaphorical opposition between darkness and light. My analysis adopts the perspective of the Animal Studies to read this literary fragment as an autonomous theme, with comic intentions, more than as an expression of the aforementioned duality. I start discussing the relationship between the feline, the woman and the domestic space in early modern times. Then, I analyze the context of the scene, its comical function, and its repercussions in the psychological development of Finea's character. Finally, I comment the presence of the «cat's delivery» theme in Lope's late work La Dorotea and its persistence in modern Spanish literature
