    Annotation:

A tour through the representational Byzantine arts dating from the reign of Justinian through the 11th century allows us to the situate the exhaustion of the classical iconography -that is to say, the representation of the gods and heroes of the Classical Period- in the middle of the 7th century, and the beginnings of the recovery of the same in the final years of the 9th century. This gap constitutes a premise fundamental to the study of the contents and limits of the so-called Macedonian Renaissance.
