Setting off from a brief analysis of Ersi Sotiropoulou's novel "Zigzag through the bitter-orange trees", which in 2000 was subjected to judicial persecution for allegedly improper language and content, the present work aspires to show that this deplorable case of censorship -unfortunately far from isolated in recent years- expresses, in the manner of a symptom, a deep level aversion on behalf of certain sectors of Greek society to the gradual emergence of a new literary and cultural paradigm which registers in clearly critical terms profound changes in Modern Greek society and of which Ersi Sotiropoulou's work may be said to be representative.
