19th century marks the time when novel, in the western sense, appears in the Ottoman and Greek literatures. ?he first Greek novel, Polipathis (1839), inspired Temasa-i Dünya ve Cefakâr u Cefakes (1871-1872), which is also accepted among the first Ottoman novels. This article will investigate why a novel written for the Greeks had an impact on the readers who lived within the boundaries of the Ottoman Empire and the alterations it had.
