It was not only veryimportant for him, judging by how manytimes he published it, but it also condenseshis narrative strategy: many of its featuresare reflected widely in the novel where itis inscribed, The Trial. The circumstances ofits gestation and the radical nature of hisapproach give it a theological character,compared to other more sociological oranthropological approaches. This hypothesisis reinforced when parallels with otherbiblical stories are easily found. Furthermore,the author's own opinions, in whomlife and literature appear so inexorablylinked, point rather to a problematizationof existence as a whole, and not specificallyto any of its aspects, hence the anguish anduncertainty that surrounds both the protagonistof his writings as well as the reader,who in vain wants to find a last piecethat gives meaning to the whole.
