    The newborns of the House of Austria were swaddled with bands of cloth in order to avoid bone malformations. For the execution of this inmemorial practice, the royal seamstresses and lacemakers prepared the necessary clothing a few weeks before birth. The requirement to show the royal condition of newborn princes and princesses led to the inclusion of sumptuous ornaments and noble fabrics in their wardrobe, of which the baptism dress was the most opulent
