    The aim of this article is to study the reception of the history of the Polish saint Casimir Jagellon in modern Europe, and in Spain in particular. To this aim, we will delve into the religious and political factors that contributed to the development of his cult in the Hispanic empire, as well as the mark it left on Spanish literature, the comedy Antes morir que pecar o San Casimiro, attributed a Agustín Moreto. We will focus on analyzing the historical fidelity of the plot and its fictionalization, paying special attention to the relationship between political power and religion it reflects. We will also examine the historical-political context of the piece, taking into account the importance of the the activity of the Society of Jesus and the government of the Polish king John Casimir Vasa for the creation of the comedy. In addition, we will try to give some new details about its possible dating
