One of the essential characteristics of the dramatic subgenre called «magic comedy» is its ability to "hypnotize" the publics through an audiovisual show that arises from the magic tricks and the extreme complexity of the stage. A master in this struggles was the playwright José de Cañizares (1676-1750), who in his series dedicated to Don Juan de Espina delights the viewer, who comes to the comedy cor - rals, with a wide repertoire of prodigies and marvellous effects resulting from magic. This collaboration aims to demonstrate the how successfully Cañizares prop up a model of a «magic comedy» that we could call sensory comedy, a clear precedent of cinematrographic technique in perfect simbiosis with circus art which lasted in the settings for much of the 18th century.
