Chapbook no. 1066 in the Nuevo Diccionario bibliográfico de pliegos sueltos poéticos (s. XVI) includes a group of traditional and courtly villancicos with a long bibliographical tradition that is set in motion with Juan del Encina´s Cancionero and encompasses the century originating with the musical cancioneros of the first decades of the sixteenth century and culminating in the printed and manuscript cancioneros of the early seventeenth century. Our analysis indicates that we are dealing with a fashionable body of courtly poetry that was read and sung by the literate classes of that period which also coincides with the blossoming of Petrarchism.
