Edith Warthon travelled to Morocco in 1919, and she gave an account of her experience in Morocco (1920). In this work, Wharton shows the influence of the "humanist"-imperialist point of view of Mariscal Lyautey, general resident of Morocco under the French Protectorate. What are the main points of such a "phallic" discourse which seduced Edith Wharton? Being Wharton's point of view feminine, since she pays attention in her book, for instance, to the Moroccan women, how does it interact with Lyautey's discourse? And how does Lyautey's discourse interact with Warthon artistic consciousness and her aesthetic perception of places and events?
