The figure of the lawyer is part of the quintessential triad of satirical literature, along with the doctor and the merchant. Perhaps that is why it is difficult to find an unbiased and dispassionate treatment in literary texts, which oscillate between praise and vituperation (being the latter the predominant one). The use of confessors' manuals will help to alleviate this lack: in the court of penance, the priest does not seek the praise of the profession (like the writers of acclaims of professions in the humanist sphere) nor its derision (like satirical authors), but to establish the sins of the lawyers. Through the study of these sins, it is possible to reconstruct in a more equitable way the bad professional practices of lawyers in the Modern Age
