This article analyzes El Auto de los despatriados («The Passion Play of the Exiles») by Andalucian poet Miguel Pizarro, the only dramatic work written in Spanish in the style of Nõ theatre with characteristic features of the "auto sacramental". We draw a parallel between Pizarro's only theatre play and the poet's eventful life, marked by the Spanish Civil War, his eleven-year stay in Japan and his American exile. The article identifies the key devices of the Nõ theatre found in the play, and the paradigms of the Spanish «auto sacramental». Additionally, it explores Buddhist thought on love and destiny implicit in the play, as well as an analysis of the main symbols from the traditions of the East
