This article studies the role and social dynamics of native women in the city of Quito during the XVIIth century. Based on the notarial archives it analizes the presence of native women, its ways of behaving, its power and change on the Quito's social reality. At the same time, it focuses also on day-to-day practices, economic ways and work history of these native women showing their independence, their power and their fundamental role for the creation and development of the society of the city of Quito during the seventeenth century.
