This essay aims to offer a new interpretation of the manuscript and print tradition of Garcilaso de la Vega's sonnet 35, on the basis of a close analysis of its textual variants. Since Venezia Marciana It. IX, 137 ms precedes the 1574 editio princeps, we may reasonably assume that the three surviving witnesses contain different authorial variants of a rather fluid text.
