This parody is materialised through a continuous contrast between the speech of the ridiculed professions and the «amor pedigüeño», centerpiece of the play: this allows Quiñones to create a verbal dialectic game that is highly effective from a burlesque perspective. The present paper aims to examine the rhetorical devices (ambiguity, metaphor, irony) used by Quiñones to overlap technical terms with references to greed and thus to create a humorous effect. This analysis will be accompanied by a sample of the linguistic particularities, mainly lexical particularities, of each of the social groups that are ridiculed in this play
