This work tries to demonstrate the importance of the culture of war in the Spanish Golden Age. It also aims to show, through cultural messages, the existence of a gap between the technical reality of the army and its action. Through the comparison between treatise literature and other literary genres, especially the so called «cordel sheets» (source scarcely used in spite of is historiographic value), we can see this lack of concordance. The gap between reality and its cultural representation latter is used consciously, but also unconsciously, to transmit a justifying image of the warlike actions of Monarchy
